For the first time, an Israeli civilian flight flew over Saudi Arabia and landed in the United Arab Emirates

For the first time, an Israeli civil plane flew over Saudi Arabia landing in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The flight marks an important step in the normalization of relations between the two countries, mediated by the US administration of President Donald Trump.

The plane of the Israeli flag carrier El Al had taken off this morning around 11.30 AM local time from Tev Aviv with an Israeli delegation and a US delegation on board. He was allowed to cross the airspace of Saudi Arabia, normally blocked to Israeli air traffic, and after three hours he landed directly in Abu Dhabi. The United Arab Emirates became the third Arab country in the Middle East to recognize Israel since its founding in 1948, and a few days ago it repealed the law on the country’s boycott in place since 1972.

Also present on the flight was the White House adviser and son-in-law of President Donald Trump, Jared Kushner, who just before boarding said: “Arabs and Muslims from all over the world should look at the plane flying from Israel to the United Arab Emirates today. as a sign of what is possible through peace ”. The Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, in turn spoke of a “historic day”, while the Palestinian prime minister Mohammad Shtayyeh commented on the event saying: “We are deeply saddened to see an Israeli plane land in the Emirates, with a clear violation of what is the Arab position on the Arab-Israeli conflict ”.
