Expo Dubai, a 1,7 billion opportunity for Italy

Italy will be present at Expo Dubai 2021 with sixty firms that reflect the excellence of Made in Italy. The latest to enter was Saipem that signed an agreement with the General Commissioner of Italy for Expo, Paolo Glisenti. The company will participate as technical partner and official premium provider for the Italian Pavilion and will be present with an installation inspired by renewable energy.

The Italian presence at Expo Dubai 2021 will have important benefits for the country system, estimated at 1.7 billion euros per year in the 3-4 years following the event. According to the forecasts issued before the pandemic crisis, there will be millions of visitors for the entire exposition, considering physical and virtual access, while thousands per day are expected for the Italian pavilion, which will be completed in the coming months. It is also made with a mix of completely sustainable materials and the central theme will be “Beauty connects people”.

Expo Dubai 2021 will be a crucial event for Italian companies that will greatly benefit the export sector, as documented by an ad hoc research carried out by the School of Management “Politecnico di Milano” and signed by Lucia Tajoli and Lucio Lamberti. Other sectors that will see positive results coming from Expo Dubai will be those moving towards sustainability, the economy of space and life sciences, as well as education and the creative industry, especially design. However, the overall benefits go beyond numbers because, as Commissioner Paolo Glisenti points out, there is a theme of diplomatic relations linked to energy transition “which will open up interesting relations and prospects for Italy” in those markets, where Saipem – which landed in the Middle East in the 1970s in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and has its logistics base in the Emirate of Sharjah – also aims to consolidate its presence.
