Expo 2020: A big opportunity for Italian Start Ups

DUBAI EXPO 2020

A great opportunity for the economic sector and Italian Start Ups

PROJECT OF THE ITALIAN INDUSTRY & COMMERCE OFFICE IN THE UAE

in collaboration with UNIVERSITÀ DEGLI STUDI DI TORINO and HALAL TO

  • Dubai is, so far, one of the most active and multicultural financial and commercial centers in the world;

  • In Italy, whose entrepreneurial fabric is made up of 90% of SMEs, the majority, however, do not know the individual potential of this market, and in perspective, even those of the Middle East.

  • The Expo2020 event represents the culmination of a process that began over 20 years ago.

  • The UAE, and in particular Dubai, are today a commercial hub that ranges from East Africa to India, obviously passing through the Middle East and the Gulf countries in particular.

Development of the project

The Italian Chamber of Commerce in the UAE (IICUAE) in collaboration with the Management Department of the University of Turin / Halal-To (academic spin-off of the University of Turin) aims to create a model capable of hosting rotation of the start-ups selected to participate in the project at the Italian Pavilion.

In a first phase, on the input of the University of Turin / Halal-To and of the IICUAE, the Italian Chambers of Commerce on the Italian territory together with the trade associations, the network of Italian Representative professionals and the INCUBATORS of the various Italian universities will deal with the activities aimed at disseminating the project, with the aim of collecting adhesions.

In addition, in order to work in synergy and to support long-term investments in the Emirate market, the Chamber involves the Dubai Future Foundation in the project, thanks to the Country in Residence Agreement.

The startups selected to take part in the project will be 60, divided roughly into the three sectors previously described: Opportunities, Mobility, Sustainability. Consequently, a 3-month presence at the Italian Pavilion is expected, from 20 October 2020 to 15 January 2021 for the first 30 participating startups.

The second attendance round will take place from 16 January 2021 to 10 April 2021.
