EXPO 2020 Dubai, the Universal Exposition following that of Milan in 2015, will be postponed for a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
It will open on October 1st, 2021 and will end on March 31st, 2022.
The Bureau International des Expositions, the intergovernmental body that organizes the Universal Expositions, has announced that the qualified majority of two thirds of the member countries necessary for the postponement requested last month by the United Arab Emirates Government has been exceeded. Voting will continue until May 29, however.
In supporting this decision, Italy confirmed at that time the will that the objectives set for participation in the next edition of EXPO are fully achieved, in compliance with the commitments made with the Government of the United Arab Emirates, operating in close contact with the organizers and its international partners.
“EXPO Dubai”, declared the Commissioner General for Italy’s participation in the event, Paolo Glisenti, “promises to be the first opportunity offered by the largest event ever organized on the international scene, with over 190 participants, for the relaunch of the Italy, from exports to tourism, from science to art and culture.”The new communication for the promotion of Made in Italy, the e-commerce strategy of companies and the digitalization of the production chains for the recovery of exports and the attraction of new foreign investments towards Italy, the training processes of the new management engaged in post-Covid-19 relaunch projects, the promotion of our cultural excellence and our artistic talents as well as the enhancement of our scientific and university networks that operate today in world projects on health, safety and sustainability will find at Expo Dubai an ideal ‘platform’ of truly universal visibility and collaboration ”, concluded the Commissioner General.
