The magnificent scenery of Lake Como (also known as Lake Lario) has enchanted artists and travelers for centuries: from French novelist Flaubert to musicians of the caliber of Gioacchino Rossini, Giuseppe Verdi, and Vincenzo Bellini; it was here that he composed his opera Norma. The Lake was also the birthplace of illustrious personages such as Italian physicist Alessandro Volta, inventor of the first electric generator, the Voltaic Pile, now on view in the Physics Museum of Rome’s Sapienza University. Lake Como continues to attract members of the international jet-set and celebrities that appreciate the evocative beauty of the Lake and its surroundings.

It is one of the most important buildings in the region. It is commonly described as the last Gothic cathedral built in Italy: construction on it, on the site of the earlier Romanesque cathedral dedicated to Santa Maria Maggiore, began in 1396, 10 years after the foundation of Milan Cathedral.

Villa Olmovilla olmo

It is the most famous of the historic houses that have made the town one of the major centers of Italian Enlightenment.  Its name derives from a large elm (in Italian “Olmo”) planted in the park of the villa by Pliny the Younger. In the decades, Napoleon and Garibaldi were hosted in the villa. Today it is owned by the municipality, which has been restored to use it for exhibitions and cultural events

Bellagio is a small village at the tip of a long hilly promontory between the two southern branches of Lake Como. It is an elegant and long-established tourist resort, which still retains considerable charm despite the daily influx of trippers. The historic village of Bellagio only has a population of around 200 (compared to 900 beds for tourists), and most locals live in other hamlets and villages on the headland, all grouped together under the local authority, the Comune di Bellagio. The tiny town is an excellent place to while away an afternoon, to spend a relaxing romantic holiday or simply to base yourself for an exploration of Lake Como

Como – Brunate Funicularcomo - brunate funicular

The Como–Brunate funicular (Italian: Funicolare Como-Brunate) is a funicular railway that connects the city of Como with the village of Brunate in LombardyItaly. The line has operated since 1894, and is used by both tourists and local residents. the funicular is a nice way to get to Brunate and enjoy a splendid view of the lake.


Pescallo is a very small town, with a road, a restaurant and a small pier. It has been called one of the most romantic villages in the area. Ideal if you are looking for calm, relax and romance. In the area there are small and romantic apartments and hotels.

Moto Guzzi MuseumMoto Guzzi Museum

The Museum that celebrates the Moto Guzzi is located in Mandello del Lario, (branch of Lake Lecco) in the center of the historic Guzzi motorcycle factory. Inside you will find a wonderful collection of motorcycles from all eras and photos of runners who have made the Guzzi brand famous.

Tempio VoltianoTempio Voltiano

The building in the shape of a neoclassical temple built on the lakefront celebrates the figure and the work of the great physicist from Como, Alessandro Volta. The museum, conceived and financed by the industrial and patron Francesco Somaini, was erected on the occasion of the first centenary of the death of the inventor of the pile (1927) to host the scientific instruments that belonged to him.
